Vuka East Africa: Terms and Conditions

Operated by The Lazy Company | Effective date: [Insert date] | Last updated: [Insert date]

The short version. Vuka helps you find events, venues and organizers across East Africa. We list events from organizers and public sources, and we do not run those events. At launch Vuka does not sell tickets: where a listing has a ticket link, you buy from that organizer or ticketing provider, not from us. You can delete your account at any time in the app. This summary is for convenience; the full Terms below apply.

1. About Vuka East Africa

Vuka East Africa (“Vuka”, “we”, “us”, “our”) is an event discovery platform operated by The Lazy Company, a business registered with the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB), registration number [Insert URSB registration number].

These Terms apply to our website at https://vukaea.com, our mobile and web apps, and our related services (together, the “Platform”). You can contact us at info@vukaea.com.

2. Accepting these Terms

By creating an account or using the Platform you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy (https://vukaea.com/privacy). If you do not agree, please do not use the Platform.

Nothing in these Terms removes or limits any legal right that cannot lawfully be removed or limited.

3. Who can use Vuka

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. Some listings may be viewable without an account.

Organizers and venues may set their own age limits for events, and they, not Vuka, decide who is admitted. You must not misrepresent your age or identity.

4. Your account

When you create an account, you agree to:

  1. give accurate and current information;
  2. keep your login details secure and not share your account;
  3. tell us promptly at info@vukaea.com if you suspect someone has accessed your account without permission; and
  4. not impersonate any person, business, organizer or venue.

You are responsible for activity on your account, except where it results from our own failure or where the law says otherwise.

Deleting your account. You can delete your account at any time from within the app, or by emailing info@vukaea.com. When you do, we delete or anonymise your personal information as set out in our Privacy Policy. We may keep limited information where we are legally required to, or where it is needed to prevent fraud and abuse or to resolve a dispute.

5. What Vuka does

Vuka lets you discover events, venues and organizers; save events; follow organizers and venues; receive recommendations and notifications; and, if you are an organizer or venue, claim and manage a profile.

Vuka is a discovery platform. Unless we clearly say otherwise, we do not organize, host, sponsor, insure or control the events listed, and a listing is not an endorsement.

At launch Vuka does not sell tickets. If we introduce ticket sales or other paid features, additional terms will apply and we will show them to you before you pay.

We may add, change or remove features over time.

6. Event information and listings created by Vuka

Event listings may come from organizers, venues, public promotions and social media, user submissions, and our administrators. A listing can include a title, description, poster, date, time, venue, lineup, price, age limit, organizer details and a ticket link.

We work to keep listings useful and accurate, but details can change and information from third parties may be incomplete or wrong. Please confirm important details with the organizer before you travel or spend money.

Corrections and removal. If you are an organizer, venue, performer or rights holder and you want a listing, poster or other content corrected or removed, email info@vukaea.com. We aim to respond within 7 days, and we will correct or remove content that is inaccurate, that was posted without authority, or that you are legally entitled to have removed.

We may correct, label, restrict or remove any listing that is outdated, misleading, disputed, unlawful or reported by an affected party.

7. Organizer and venue profiles

Some profiles are created by our administrators before the organizer or venue has joined Vuka. The existence of a profile does not mean the organizer or venue has verified it, approved its contents or is connected with Vuka. Where available, we label profiles as unclaimed, pending or verified.

You must not present yourself as the representative of an organizer or venue unless you are authorized to act for it.

8. Claiming a profile

If you own, manage or are authorized to represent an organizer or venue, you can ask to claim its profile.

  • We may ask for reasonable proof of identity, ownership or authority.
  • Submitting a claim does not give you control of the profile.
  • We may approve or reject a claim, ask for more information, pause changes while we look into a dispute, decide between competing claims, and reverse access that was obtained through false information or without authority.
  • A claim does not give you any ownership of Vuka, its software or its data.

If you think a profile has been claimed or changed without authority, email info@vukaea.com with supporting details.

9. If you run an organizer or venue profile

If you manage an organizer or venue profile or publish events on Vuka, you agree to:

  1. provide accurate event details, including dates, venue, prices, fees and age limits;
  2. make sure you have the right to promote the event and hold any permits, licences and venue arrangements the law requires;
  3. update or remove listings promptly if an event is changed, postponed, moved or cancelled;
  4. use only content you own or have permission to use;
  5. not publish fake events, misleading offers or inflated attendance claims; and
  6. meet your own legal obligations to attendees, including any refund, safety and accessibility obligations that apply to your event and any tickets you sell.

You are responsible for your events and your own sales. Vuka is not a party to your arrangements with attendees.

10. Tickets and external links

Vuka does not sell tickets at launch. Some listings link to an organizer’s website or an independent ticketing provider.

If you follow a link and buy a ticket, you are buying from that seller under its own terms. Vuka is not the seller, does not receive your payment, and does not issue, replace or refund those tickets.

Before you pay, check who the seller is, the total price including fees, the cancellation and refund policy, and how the ticket will be delivered. Take care with your payment details on any external site.

If you come across a suspected scam or misleading link, report it to info@vukaea.com. We may remove links we reasonably believe to be misleading, unsafe or unlawful.

This section does not limit our responsibility for our own conduct or any right you have under the law.

11. Your content and our licence

You may submit content such as photos, posters, logos, descriptions and profile information. You keep ownership of your content.

By submitting content, you give The Lazy Company a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, display, format, distribute and promote it on and through the Platform, and to promote the relevant event or profile. This licence lasts for as long as needed to provide the Platform, meet legal obligations and resolve disputes, and it ends when you delete the content or your account, except for backup copies and records we are required or entitled to keep.

You confirm that you have the rights needed to submit the content and give this licence, and that it does not infringe anyone’s copyright, trademark, privacy or other rights.

Vuka’s name, logo, software and design belong to us or our licensors. Do not copy or commercially use them without permission, except where the law allows.

12. Copyright and other rights complaints

If you believe content on Vuka infringes your rights, email info@vukaea.com with:

  • your name and contact details;
  • the content concerned and where it appears;
  • the right you believe is infringed and why; and
  • evidence that you own the right or are authorized to act for the owner.

We may ask for more information, restrict access to the content, and tell the person who posted it. A complaint does not guarantee removal, and we will consider the evidence and the law.

13. Acceptable use

You must not use Vuka to:

  1. publish fake events, fraudulent offers or materially misleading information;
  2. impersonate any person, business, organizer or venue;
  3. harass, threaten or unlawfully discriminate against others;
  4. upload malware or try to access accounts, systems or data without permission;
  5. interfere with the security or operation of the Platform;
  6. scrape or collect Platform data by automated means without our written permission;
  7. infringe intellectual property or privacy rights;
  8. send spam or unsolicited commercial messages;
  9. misuse claims, follows, bookmarks, reports or other features to deceive people; or
  10. do anything unlawful.

We may investigate suspected breaches and take proportionate action, including removing content, limiting features, suspending accounts and reporting conduct to the authorities where the law requires or allows.

14. Recommendations, follows and notifications

Vuka may recommend events using factors such as your location, event dates, categories, popularity, bookmarks, follows and how you use the Platform. Recommendations are not guarantees of quality or suitability, and they are not endorsements.

You can manage notifications in the app and unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time. If we offer sponsored or paid placements, we will label them clearly.

15. Maps, location and third-party services

The Platform uses third-party services such as Google Maps Platform for maps and place search, Google and Apple for sign-in, and providers for email delivery, image hosting and cloud infrastructure. Those services run under their own terms and privacy policies.

When you use maps or place search in Vuka, you are also bound by the Google Maps/Google Earth Additional Terms of Service (https://maps.google.com/help/terms_maps/) and the Google Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy).

If you allow location access, we use your location to show events near you. You can turn this off at any time in your device or browser settings.

Links to other websites are not endorsements, and we do not control them.

16. Privacy

Our Privacy Policy (https://vukaea.com/privacy) explains what personal information we collect, including location information, why we collect it, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and how you can exercise your rights. We handle personal information in line with Uganda’s Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019.

Do not give us another person’s personal information unless you are entitled to. Privacy questions can be sent to info@vukaea.com.

17. Availability and changes

We work to keep Vuka available, but we cannot promise it will always be uninterrupted or error-free. It may be unavailable because of maintenance, technical faults, security incidents or events outside our control.

We may update, suspend or discontinue features where reasonably necessary, and we will give notice of significant changes where appropriate.

18. Disclaimers

To the extent the law allows, Vuka is provided “as available”. We do not guarantee that every listed event will take place as advertised, that every listing, profile or external provider has been independently verified, or that the Platform will be free of errors or delays.

These disclaimers do not remove any promise we expressly make or any right you have under the law that cannot be excluded.

19. Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, Vuka is not responsible for losses caused by the acts or omissions of independent organizers, venues or external ticketing providers, where we are not legally responsible for them. We are also not liable for indirect or consequential losses that were not reasonably foreseeable.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for fraud, deliberate misconduct, or anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, and nothing affects your mandatory consumer rights.

20. Responsibility of organizers and venues

If you use Vuka for business purposes, for example as an organizer or venue, you are responsible for losses and reasonable costs that arise directly from your unlawful conduct, your material breach of these Terms, or your infringement of another person’s rights. This does not make you responsible for our own wrongdoing or for liability the law does not allow to be transferred.

21. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or end your access to an account, listing, profile or feature where reasonably necessary because of a material breach of these Terms, suspected fraud or impersonation, unlawful or infringing content, a security risk, or a legal requirement. Where appropriate we will explain why and give you a chance to respond, except where we must act immediately or the law prevents us from giving notice.

You may stop using Vuka and delete your account at any time (see section 4). Ending your account does not affect rights or obligations that arose before it ended.

22. Complaints

If you have a complaint about Vuka, a listing or a profile claim, email info@vukaea.com. Please include enough detail to identify the issue, such as the event name, your account email or relevant messages. Do not send passwords or payment card numbers.

We will review your complaint fairly and may involve the relevant organizer, venue or provider. Using this process does not stop you from approaching a regulator or a court.

23. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Uganda, and disputes may be brought before a competent court in Uganda. This does not remove any mandatory protection that applies to you under the law.

24. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as the Platform, our services or the law change. The current version is always at https://vukaea.com/terms with its “Last updated” date. If a change materially affects your rights or obligations, we will notify you in the app or by email, and we will ask for your agreement where the law requires it. Changes do not take away rights you have already acquired.

25. General

  • Whole agreement: these Terms, our Privacy Policy and any service-specific terms are the whole agreement between you and us about the Platform.
  • If part is invalid: if any part of these Terms is found to be unlawful or unenforceable, the rest continues to apply as far as the law allows.
  • No waiver: delaying to enforce a right does not mean we give it up.
  • No partnership: using Vuka does not make you our partner, employee or agent.
  • Transfers: you may not transfer your rights under these Terms without our consent. We may transfer ours as part of a lawful business transfer, with notice where the law requires.
  • Language: these Terms are in English.
  • Electronic notices: we may give you notices and records electronically, unless the law requires another form.
